Navigate this Week's Moon Transits through Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn

This Week's Moon Transits at a Glance:

  • Monday: There are secrets that need to remain hidden

  • Tuesday: Physical and Mental Energies Run Wild

  • Friday: Duty & Responsibility is in the Air

I am introducing Monday Moondays to give you an astrological lens into the energy of each day of the week, each week, based on Luna’s transits through the astrological signs, her conjunctions to planets, and her phase. I will send these out every Monday to give you astrological guidance for the week. This weekly newsletter will help you understand the energies each day of the week, plan how to use them, and think about how you might want to interact with others who are also under this influence. Note that the Moon transit will impact each person differently based on the specific configurations in their birth chart. Still, the overall energetics that the Moon exerts on the day and people generally is notable. And, no matter your birth chart, you can still use this energy for certain tasks related to the way the Moon expresses herself in each sign’s energy field.

The Moon (Luna) –

The Moon is the heavenly body closest to Earth, and she exerts much influence on human life. Scientists agree that, based on her gravitational pull, the Moon governs the tides and flow of the waters of the Earth. In the same way, she controls the fluids in the human body, which is about 80% water! Luna’s phases are notable for how they impact human behavior, with statical studies showing that there is more crime and more mental health crises around the time of the full moon each month then at any other time of each month. When she transits each astrological sign, the Moon gives a flavor to the energy of the day. We can feel it in the air, see it in the way people behave, and use it to achieve certain tasks or take certain actions based on the natural energy of day. The same is true with the Moon’s phases.

How the Moon Will Impact the Day’s Energy and the Way People Around You Behave

Monday: There are secrets that need to remain hidden...

The Moon is in Scorpio from the start of Monday, January 12 until Tuesday, January 13 at 6:30 PM EST

The energy in the air is a bit heavy, sensual, emotionally stimulating; it is a bit like waiting for something important or sudden to happen. Scorpio is fixed water, so the emotional world is prominent but not visibly active; currents flow beneath the surface or freeze. There is usually powerful sexual energy underlying these Scorpio Moon days as well. These are days that can bring a feeling of intrigue or mystery; there are secrets that need to remain hidden. The days have a potency to them - serious things need to be undertaken and completed. Frivolous fun and games are for another time.

People may be more introspective, cautious, controlled, and concentrated. This is a serious energy, and people may seem unhappy, but likely they are just focused. This is a passionate Moon placement, so deep emotions can feel more intense. Another way to think of it is that emotions are strong but generally internalized. However, anger can bubble over if there is betrayal or if someone is hurt emotionally – this is, after all, Mars’ slow burning sign. Mars rules anger. While a hurt person might seem to have processed the situation, you have to beware of the sting, which can come under this Moon. People can be more devoted to work or others at this time.

Use the energy to finish projects rather than start new ones...

Note that, at sunrise on Monday, the Moon will be in mid-Scorpio and it near the midheaven in the sky. It is a waning sextile Moon, so it is better for finishing projects than starting new ones. However, if you have something that is quick that needs to get done at work, it is making nice aspects to the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars, who are all rising at this time in Capricorn, so you can make a nice intention for starting something new at work this week and you can have good follow through! This is because the connection between this Scorpio Moon on the midheaven and the Capricorn planets is taking control of work that you do in the outer world or in your career. Scorpio has good follow through and concentration, so you can set the intention and put it into action in these couple of days; it has lasting effects, so you can keep it going! You can start this Monday by starting something new at work that will help you manage your resources there more efficiently and effectively. If you want start something new, do it in the morning around sunrise.

Tuesday: Physical and Mental Energies Run Wild

The Moon is in Sagittarius from Tuesday Jan. 13 at 6:30 PM EST to Friday Jan. 16 at 6:50 AM EST

The energy of the day is active and inquisitive – it is mutable fire, so the already boundary-less fire energy is in a mode where it moves in many directions without guidance. The physical and mental energies run wild. It is a seekers’ Moon. There is an underlying energy of considering life. This is a stimulating Moon, and there is a push to be physicaly active, social, and enjoy the days. Information is being spread in large amounts over large areas; news and communications are more active. There can be shifts in international affairs under this Moon. Driving and commuting can be a bit more hectic. This can be a tough Moon for sleep.

People will want to do more, learn more, and likely talk more. People may want to convey their beliefs more – this is a public speaking and proselytizing Moon. There is more anxiety and manic energy under this Moon, so people can be on edge at times. Folks may be more inquisitive, so you might get more questions. They can be more physically and mentally active. They want freedom, so take care not to curb it in a way that can create conflict! People also may want to discover new things, or be adventerous in different parts of life.

Do not start anything new, especially Sagittarius-ruled things...

This is a waning Moon that is averse to the Sun. It is not good start anything new, especially Sagittarius-ruled things like travel, advertising, learning or teaching something new in a formal way, making international contacts, sending large scale communication blasts, work with religious groups, immigrating, athletics, group think projects, internet connections or work, doing media work (e.g., radio, TV, podcasts, etc.), educational systems, and/or space travel or physics. It can be nice to complete projects; again those Sagittarian in nature are best.

Friday: Duty and Responsibility are in the Air

The Moon is in Capricorn from Friday Jan. 16 at 6:50 AM EST to Sunday Jan. 18 at 5:18 PM EST

The energy of these days is directed towards achieving goals. Capricorn is a cardinal Earth sign, oriented towards managing resources in the material world. There can be a feeling that things need to be in their right place; it is an orderly Moon energy, controlling the generally fluid nature of the Moon such that the energy can feel a bit stilted. There can an air of duty and responsibility in action – you have things you must do, and you will feel the need to do them. These are days when taking care of business feels more natural; lounging and relaxing are harder to achieve. It is not a cuddly energy – it is brittle, brisk, and emotionally cold.

People are more goal oriented and direct. There is a feeling that things need to get done that can make people seem more distant. “I don’t have time for your feelings. Emotions are things that get in the way of completing tasks.” Authority figures can be more prominent and demanding or commanding. Do not get in the way of others trying to achieve their ends. People may be more political or interested in talking about politics, possibly because events on the world stage happen under this swiftly under this Moon sign. People may act more like parents under this Moon (think bossier) – giving orders and instructions, even when it is not appropriate.

Projects are coming to an end...

The first two Capricorn Moon days are the dark of the Moon, so the energy is usually less active. Projects and events are ending; it is not a time of new beginnings, especially in this initial winter sign, where life in the outside world is waning as well. Much of what I list above will be more subtle as Luna’s energy is weaker when she is not reflecting the light of the Sun (i.e., in her dark phases). However, given Capricorn’s naturally reserved energetics, we will still see these tendencies play out under this Moon transit. It is also good to complete projects on the dark of the moon that have lingered over the course of the lunar month. However, if the project requires something to be noticed – a final product that must be seen – you may want to wait until at least the new moon, which again is after 3:00 pm EST, January 18.

The Moon Conjoins Mars and Mercury in Capricorn – January 18, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm EST –

Energy is pulled to an exalted Mars combined with Mercury, who has dignity by triplicity here. This is mentally and physically active, with a pull towards achieving goals in those realms that you may have let go for some time – this is particularly directed to career goals or ones that further your reputation. These hours can bring a lot of business communications and connections. You may want to write work emails at this time but be sure to be politic in your messages. Large projects in the fields of development, communications, building, mining, timber, corporate management, housing and real estate can get attention with these transits. Maybe you will just go to a place of formal Sunday worship.

People are likely to want to really get things done, so may not like to be distracted. They will want to have practical discussions and plan to achieve goals. They will likely be forthright. Mars is energized – that is, energy is pulled to him – and he wants things to be completed effectively and efficiently. People are more likely to be following rules and telling you to do so if you are not. They will be into creating order and following hierarchical structures. And they may tell you so. Look for a morning (in US time zones) where people want to complete practical tasks and have useful conversations. They may be inflexible and rigid, though, so try to keep patient if people are pushing for things to get done or ordering you around. Everything needs to be in its own place in the physical and mental world.
